Our editorial take on this card
What works
5 Reward Points per ₹150 spent (worth 1.67% at conservative/voucher tier [₹0.50/pt] and 3.33% at SmartBuy flights/hotels [₹1.00/pt]) earns on virtually everything including insurance, utilities, and education, categories most cards exclude or cap. SmartBuy Hotels at 10X (33% effective return, capped at 15,000 bonus points/month) and SmartBuy Flights/eVouchers at 5X (16.5%, same 15,000 cap) make stacked travel bookings genuinely lucrative. 22 transfer partners (10 at 1:1: KrisFlyer, Flying Blue, Marriott Bonvoy, IHG, Radisson, Wyndham, Finnair, Vietnam, SpiceJet, AirAsia; and 12 at 2:1: British Airways, Cathay, Etihad, Qatar, United, Turkish, etc.) open premium-cabin redemptions worth ₹3-8 per mile. Unlimited Priority Pass lounge access for primary AND add-on holders (1,000+ lounges), unlimited golf at 20 Indian + 140+ international courses, ₹3 crore air-accident cover, and first-year complimentary Club Marriott (₹15,000 normally) round out the package. The ₹12,500 annual fee is fully waived at ₹10 lakh spend, and you get 12,500 renewal points (worth ₹12,500 on SmartBuy) on top.
Excluded categories (fuel, rent, wallet loads, EMI, and per the MITC also government transactions and property-management/movers payments) earn zero points. If your fuel, rent, and EMI run through this card, that whole slice sits at a 0% effective return, which quietly drags the headline 3.33% rate down. The 2% forex markup (HDFC calls it 'lowest', though Diners Club Black Metal and Axis Magnus also sit at 2%) means a ₹1 lakh international transaction costs ₹2,000 in markup (fine for super-premium tier, but not class-leading). SmartBuy is the only way to hit ₹1/pt redemption. Outside SmartBuy you fall to ₹0.50/pt on vouchers (1.67% effective) or ₹0.30/pt on statement credit (1%), which a plain 1.5% cashback card beats. Club Marriott is first-year only. Year 2 onwards costs ₹15,000 if you want it back. And the eligibility wall (invite-only, with ₹45 lakh self-employed ITR or a substantial HDFC relationship as the unwritten salaried bar) means most applicants will never see this card.
Bottom line
If you can get the INFINIA Metal and your spend pattern fits (heavy SmartBuy use, ₹10L+/year, low fuel/rent share), it is genuinely India's best reward-points card. The 3.33% effective rate via SmartBuy (1.67% at conservative/voucher tier), 22 transfer partners (10 at 1:1), unlimited lounges, and unlimited golf are unmatched in one package. But it's not a card you 'apply for'. It's a card you earn through income and HDFC relationship. If you're eligible and you play the SmartBuy + transfer-partner game, the rewards clearly outrun the ₹12,500 fee. If you can't get it, the Diners Club Black Metal is the closest functional twin at ₹2,500 less (base fee).

So what does this card actually earn?
Reward Points
This card earns reward points on every transaction. The real value of your points depends on how you redeem them: here is a breakdown of the redemption tiers.
Best returns require SmartBuy bookings
The 1.67% best-tier rate only materialises when you redeem via SmartBuy or transfer partners. Without SmartBuy, your effective return is 0.83% at the voucher tier, lower than the headline but still positive. If you won't route travel bookings through SmartBuy, compare using the 0.83% conservative rate instead.
Cash redemption: 70% value loss vs SmartBuy
Effective rate drops from 3.33% (at ₹1.00/point via SmartBuy) to 1% (at ₹0.30/point as statement credit / cash equivalent). If you want flexible cash redemption, a flat 1.5%+ cashback card will out-earn this card.

What does the ratio mean?
A 2:1 ratio means you transfer 2 reward points to get 1 airline mile. On premium flight redemptions, each mile can be worth ₹3–8, so your effective return on flights is often 1.5–4%, well above the headline earn rate. A 1:1 ratio means points transfer at full value.
Who Is This Card For?
High-income professionals (₹45L+ ITR for self-employed, or existing HDFC super-premium relationship for salaried) who travel 4+ times a year and can channel ₹50K+/month through the card with at least ₹5K-15K of travel via SmartBuy. This pays off for the points collector who plans 1-2 international award redemptions a year on KrisFlyer or Flying Blue, books ITC or Marriott stays regularly, and treats the ₹10 lakh annual spend as a fee-waiver target rather than a stretch. If you already hold an HDFC Regalia Gold and spend ₹15L+/year, push for the upgrade. HDFC's documented upgrade path is ₹7.5L spend in 6 months on an existing super-premium card.
If your spend is fuel-heavy, rent-routed, or EMI-stacked, the INFINIA earns ₹0 on those. A flat 1.5% cashback card returns more. If you spend significant time abroad and want sub-2% forex, this isn't your card (Axis Atlas at 3.5%, Magnus at 2%, and Diners Black Metal at 2% are all similar or worse; sub-2% means moving to specialty zero-forex products in lower tiers). If you can't reliably hit ₹10 lakh/year, the ₹12,500 fee compounds. At ₹3-5 lakh/year spend you're paying more in fees than you earn in points. And if you redeem against statement balance (₹0.30/pt = 1% effective), you're leaving more than two-thirds of the points value on the table.

Value Verdict
All rupees · no routingEstimated annual value at ₹50,000/month spend with base earn on all retail, plus milestones.
+ up to ₹12,000/yr fuel surcharge savings (regularly transact ₹400–₹1,00,000 per fill, not included above). This waives the 1% surcharge petrol pumps add. Fuel spend itself still earns 0% cashback on this card.
✓ On base rewards alone (no memberships, lounge, or milestones), this card pays for its GST-inclusive fee at ₹73,824/month spend. Below that, the card only makes sense if you actually use the perks listed above.
Year 1 also carries a one-time ₹12,500 + 18% GST joining fee (~₹14,750), charged upfront on issuance and not waivable by spend. The net above reflects the renewal-year fee; subtract the joining fee from year-1 value.
First year bonus: +₹5,000 welcome value (not included above)Year-1 net: ₹14,750 upfront (fee + 18% GST, GST non-refundable) − ~₹4,300 realized voucher value (closed-loop, ~15% liquidity haircut) ≈ ₹10,450 net cost, not zero. Bundled memberships count as non-cashable utility.
↓ Accelerated rates (SmartBuy Hotels at 33%, SmartBuy Flights & eVouchers at 16.5%) not included: actual value may be higher
Assumptions used in this estimate▸
- • Reward earnings shown at the conservative redemption tier (vouchers / statement credit).
- • Monthly reward cap of ₹1,00,000 applies to the card; spend above this earns nothing extra.
- • Lounge value uses ~55% realistic utilization (most flyers don't fully clock the available visits). Per-visit anchors: ₹800 domestic, ₹1,500 international. Retail-equivalent (100% utilization) would be ₹18,600.
- • Earn assumes all spend lands in eligible categories. 4 categories are excluded: spend there earns ₹0.
- • Annual fee of ₹12,500 + 18% GST (₹14,750 total) is included in the net calculation. Fee would be waived above ₹10,00,000/year spend.
