Fuel Surcharge Waiver Details
Fee waiver requires ₹10,00,000 annual spend (₹83,333/month) on eligible retail. Most issuers exclude cash, rent, wallet reload, and fuel from the waiver-eligible total.
4 spending categories earn zero rewards (including fuel, rent).
The SBI ELITE Credit Card is SBI Card's ₹4,999-a-year reward points credit card with about 0.5% base rewards on everyday spend. Best for frequent travelers and ₹10-16l annual spenders.
Quick Decision
Reward earnings only, at the everyday spend mix: milestone vouchers and lounge value are tracked separately in the sections below. 4 categories (fuel, rent, wallet load, etc., see Excluded list) earn 0% and are NOT in this range.
Casual users hit the lower end; engaged users hit the upper end.

Our editorial take on this card
What works
The value turns on routing ₹30,000-40,000/month through dining, grocery and department stores: you get 10 reward points per ₹100 (₹0.25/point, so 2.5% effective) up to a 10,000-point monthly cap, which means ₹1 lakh/month of category spend earns ₹2,500. The milestone ladder is unusually generous for a ₹4,999 card: 10,000 bonus points at ₹3L, another 10,000 at ₹4L, 15,000 at ₹5L, and 15,000 at ₹8L stack to 50,000 points (₹12,500) on the way to one annual spend. Two BookMyShow tickets a month at ₹250 off each adds ~₹6,000/year of lifestyle value. Lounge coverage is broad: 8 domestic visits (2/quarter) plus a complimentary Priority Pass with 6 international visits a year, and the 1.99% forex markup is among the lowest of any Indian Premium card. Add-on cards are free with shared rewards, and a 4-rounds-a-year golf benefit at select courses lands on the Mastercard variant.
The 0.5% base earn (2 points per ₹100, point worth ₹0.25) is mediocre for a Premium card. Every ₹1 lakh of non-category spend returns just ₹500. Four big buckets earn zero points: fuel, rent, wallet loads (Paytm/PhonePe), and merchant EMI/Flexipay: if you pay rent or buy fuel on the card, that spend returns nothing. The 10,000-point monthly cap stops your 2.5% rate at ₹1 lakh of category spend per month. Go above and the marginal rate drops to 0.5%. The fee-waiver bar is ₹10 lakh annual spend, double what most ₹4,999 cards ask. Redemption tops out at ₹0.25/point (4 points = ₹1) with no airline transfer option and a ₹99 fee on physical product orders, so your points value is locked to vouchers and statement credit. There is no upside on premium flights the way HDFC Infinia or Axis Magnus offer. And the legacy Club Vistara / Trident Privilege tie-ups have been retired; the current Club ITC Silver replacement (1-year, first transaction within 60 days) is narrower in usable value.
Bottom line
The SBI ELITE is a mid-premium card that rewards a specific behaviour: heavy dining + grocery + department-store spend through a single card, with annual spend crossing ₹5-8 lakh. At that volume the milestone ladder alone returns ₹12,500/year and the welcome voucher covers the first-year joining fee. But the 0.5% base rate and four-category exclusion list make it a poor 'only card'. Pair it with a flat-rate cashback card for fuel, rent and utilities and you'll outperform single-card setups.

Who Is This Card For?
A dual-income urban household that pushes ₹30,000-40,000/month through dining, grocery and department stores and crosses ₹5-8 lakh in total annual card spend. This is the right card for the person who wants lounge access and milestone-bonus discipline more than airline-transfer optionality, typically a salaried professional earning ₹1.5-3 lakh/month, married, occasional international travel, who treats credit cards as a value-extraction tool rather than a status symbol.
If most of your spend is fuel, rent, wallet top-ups or utility bills, the 0.5% base rate gives you almost nothing and the ₹4,999 fee swallows your rewards. Skip it if you spend under ₹3 lakh annually (no milestone unlocks, fee unwaived), if you travel internationally frequently and want airline transfers (this card has none; look at HDFC Infinia or Axis Magnus), or if you simply want a flat-rate cashback card with no category tracking (HDFC Millennia or Amazon Pay ICICI fits better).

Value Verdict
All rupees · no routingEstimated annual value at ₹50,000/month spend with base earn on all retail, plus milestones + lounge access at realistic utilization.
+ up to ₹3,000/yr fuel surcharge savings (regularly transact ₹500–₹4,000 per fill, not included above). This waives the 1% surcharge petrol pumps add. Fuel spend itself still earns 0% cashback on this card.
✓ The fee gets waived at ₹83,333/month spend (₹10,00,000/year on eligible retail). Below that, the card only makes sense if you actually use the perks listed above: base rewards alone can't cover the ₹5,899 GST-inclusive fee until ₹98,317/month, by which point the waiver has already kicked in.
Year 1 also carries a one-time ₹4,999 + 18% GST joining fee (~₹5,899), charged upfront on issuance and not waivable by spend. The net above reflects the renewal-year fee; subtract the joining fee from year-1 value.
First year bonus: +₹5,000 welcome value (not included above)Year-1 net: ₹5,899 upfront (fee + 18% GST, GST non-refundable) − ~₹4,300 realized voucher value (closed-loop, ~15% liquidity haircut) ≈ ₹1,599 net cost, not zero.
↓ Accelerated rates (Dining at 2.5%, Grocery at 2.5%, Department Stores at 2.5%) not included: actual value may be higher
Assumptions used in this estimate▸
- • Reward earnings shown at the conservative redemption tier (Statement credit / e-gift vouchers).
- • Monthly reward cap of ₹2,500 applies to the card; spend above this earns nothing extra.
- • Milestone bonus of ₹8,750/year assumes you hit the spend threshold every period: base earn alone (no milestone) is ₹3,000/year.
- • Lounge value uses ~55% realistic utilization (most flyers don't fully clock the available visits). Per-visit anchors: ₹800 domestic, ₹1,500 international. Retail-equivalent (100% utilization) would be ₹15,400.
- • Earn assumes all spend lands in eligible categories. 4 categories are excluded: spend there earns ₹0.
- • Annual fee of ₹4,999 + 18% GST (₹5,899 total) is included in the net calculation. Fee would be waived above ₹10,00,000/year spend.
