Our editorial take on this card
What works
The 5% partner cashback rate is genuinely strong - Amazon, Flipkart, Myntra, Swiggy, Zomato, Uber, BookMyShow, Cult.fit, Sony LIV, and Tata CLiQ cover most of what urban spenders pay for online. At Rs.20,000/month across these merchants, you earn Rs.1,000 in cashback (the 5% tier's monthly earn cap). CashPoints redeem at 1 CashPoint = Rs.1 against your statement balance, so there is no devaluation risk. The Rs.1L annual spend threshold for fee waiver works out to just Rs.8,333/month - achievable for most users who shop online regularly. Hit Rs.1L in net spends each calendar quarter and you also earn a Rs.1,000 milestone voucher or one domestic lounge access - up to Rs.4,000/year in extra benefit if you sustain the quarterly pace across all four quarters.
Mind the Rs.1,000/month earn cap on the 5% partner tier - once you have spent Rs.20,000 on partner apps in a month, the 5% rate stops and you continue at 1% for additional spends. The 1% tier is also separately capped at Rs.1,000/month. Lounge access is not standalone: you get one domestic lounge visit only by choosing it over the Rs.1,000 gift voucher after hitting Rs.1L in net spends per quarter - standalone complimentary access was removed in December 2023. There is a Rs.50 redemption fee every time you redeem CashPoints as statement credit (effective August 2024), which erodes value on small redemptions. Education payments via third-party apps like CRED and Paytm earn zero cashback since September 2024. Fuel, rent, wallet loads, EMI, and government transactions are fully excluded from cashback - if those are big lines in your month, this card earns nothing on them. The 3.5% forex markup makes this card mediocre for international transactions. And on non-partner offline spends, the 1% base rate is unremarkable.
Bottom line
The HDFC Millennia is a solid entry-level cashback card if you regularly spend across Amazon, Flipkart, Swiggy, and Zomato. The 5% partner rate is real money when you stay within the Rs.1,000/month earn cap, and 1% on other spends is better than most zero-fee cards. For Amazon-exclusive shoppers, the Amazon Pay ICICI Bank Credit Card is the stronger pick - zero fees and no earn cap. For Flipkart loyalists, the Flipkart Axis card offers 5% on Flipkart at lower cost (Rs.500/yr vs Rs.1,000). IDFC FIRST Select has zero annual fee but a much lower 0.375% effective base rate - only better if you will not reliably spend Rs.1L/year. Millennia is a good starter card for multi-app online shoppers, not an all-purpose forever card.

Who Is This Card For?
Online shoppers earning Rs.35K-Rs.75K/month who spend Rs.10-20K/month on Amazon, Flipkart, Swiggy, and Zomato. First-time credit card holders who want straightforward cashback without complex reward point math. Anyone already in the HDFC ecosystem who wants a low-maintenance cashback card alongside a premium rewards card.
Heavy spenders doing Rs.50K+/month who will quickly max out the per-tier earn caps - consider HDFC Regalia or Infinia instead. International travellers - the 3.5% forex markup adds cost on every foreign currency transaction. Light spenders who spend less than Rs.1L/year and won't hit the fee waiver - the Rs.1,000 annual fee may outweigh cashback earned. Anyone who does not regularly use at least 3 of the 10 partner apps.

Value Verdict
Eligible spend · no routingEstimated annual value at ₹50,000/month spend with base earn on eligible retail (after assumed 15% in excluded categories), plus milestones + lounge access at realistic utilization.
+ up to ₹3,000/yr fuel surcharge savings (regularly transact ₹400–₹5,000 per fill, not included above). This waives the 1% surcharge petrol pumps add. Fuel spend itself still earns 0% cashback on this card.
✓ Fee waived above ₹8,333/month, so all ₹9,100 is net value
Year 1 also carries a one-time ₹1,000 + 18% GST joining fee (~₹1,180), charged upfront on issuance and not waivable by spend. The net above reflects the renewal-year fee (which your spend waives); subtract the joining fee from year-1 value.
First year bonus: +₹1,000 welcome value (not included above)
↓ Accelerated rates (Select Online Partners (Amazon, Flipkart, Myntra, Swiggy, Zomato, Uber, BookMyShow, Cult.fit, Sony LIV, Tata CLiQ) at 5%) not included: actual value may be higher
Reward earnings only: ~₹5,100/year on generic spend, or ₹7,140/year if you route ~₹4,250/month (~10% of eligible spend) through AMAZON (5% partner rate). Partner premium: +₹2,040/year.
The ₹9,100 top-line above also includes lounge access and milestone benefits on top of these reward earnings.
Assumptions used in this estimate▸
- • Reward earnings shown at the conservative redemption tier.
- • Monthly reward cap of ₹2,000 applies to the card; spend above this earns nothing extra.
- • Milestone bonus of ₹4,000/year assumes you hit the spend threshold every period: base earn alone (no milestone) is ₹5,100/year.
- • Lounge value uses ~55% realistic utilization (most flyers don't fully clock the available visits). Per-visit anchors: ₹800 domestic, ₹1,500 international. Retail-equivalent (100% utilization) would be ₹3,200.
- • Lounge access is gated at ₹1,00,000/quarter preceding spend. At ₹50,000/month you clear the gate with ₹50,000 headroom, value counted at full utilization band.
- • Assumes 15% of your spend lands in 5 excluded categories (fuel, rent, etc.) that earn ₹0: eligible spend used in the math above is ₹42,500/month.
