Our editorial take on this card
What works
The headline benefits deliver genuine value for a ₹500 card. The free SonyLiv Premium subscription (₹999 value, year 1 only) covers the annual fee in full, with the entertainment and food perks stacking on top. The District BOGO movie offer saves up to ₹200/month if you book at least one ticket monthly, and the Swiggy ₹120 discount twice a month adds up to ₹240/month on food delivery. Axis throws in 1 complimentary domestic lounge visit per calendar quarter (4/year), rare at this price point, though you need ₹50,000 in previous quarter spend to unlock it. AJIO shoppers get ₹1,000 off on a ₹2,999 minimum spend (code AJIOAXISMZ). The fuel surcharge waiver (1%, ₹400-₹4,000 transactions, capped ₹400/month) saves another ~₹400/year for a modest petrol budget. The card is often issued as lifetime free during Axis promotions, making the effective cost zero.
The 0.4% base reward rate is among the worst in its class (4 EDGE points per ₹200 spent, each worth ₹0.20), so reward earnings are negligible even for heavy spenders. Ten categories (fuel, rent, wallet loads, utilities, EMI, insurance, jewellery, education, government, and cinema/movies) earn zero points. The cruel one is cinema: the card markets movies, but pays them in BOGO discounts, not points. The 3.5% forex markup makes this card unsuitable for international transactions. The ₹50,000-per-quarter spend gate for lounge access is steep for an entry-level cardholder, and the milestone reward (1,000 EDGE points worth ₹200 on ₹1.5 lakh annual spend) is a thin consolation. Critically, Axis discontinued the SonyLiv annual renewal from April 1, 2026. Only the year-1 welcome subscription remains, and year 2 onward the main benefit anchor disappears.
Bottom line
The Axis My Zone is a lifestyle-perks card, not a rewards card. In year one, the bundled benefits (SonyLiv Premium at ₹999, Swiggy discounts up to ₹240/month, and BOGO movies up to ₹200/month) easily exceed the ₹500 fee for an active user. From year two onward, with the SonyLiv renewal discontinued since April 2026, only the Swiggy + movie perks remain and the case weakens sharply. If you're a Swiggy + theatre regular, it still works. If you want the best return on actual spending, Amazon Pay ICICI (5%/3% on Amazon, zero fee), Flipkart Axis (5% on Flipkart, 1% base), or SBI Cashback (5% online, ₹999 fee) all beat it on raw reward rate.

Who Is This Card For?
First-card buyers and young professionals who order food on Swiggy at least 2-3 times a month, watch movies in theatres once a month, and want a SonyLiv subscription thrown in for year 1. The card also works well as a secondary entertainment-perks card for someone who already has a flat-cashback primary card (e.g., Amazon Pay ICICI or Axis Ace) and just wants the BOGO movies and Swiggy discount.
Anyone who prioritizes raw reward rate. The Amazon Pay ICICI (5% on Amazon for Prime members, 3% for non-Prime, 1% base, zero annual fee) returns far more on pure spending. Axis Ace gives 5% cashback on bill payments (via Google Pay), 4% on Swiggy/Zomato/Ola, and 1.5% on everything else for a ₹499 fee (waived on ₹2L annual spend). If you don't use Swiggy, don't watch theatre movies, and don't care about SonyLiv year 1, this card offers almost nothing. Frequent international travellers should skip it entirely: the 3.5% forex markup is punishing.

Value Verdict
Eligible spend · no routingEstimated annual value at ₹50,000/month spend with base earn on eligible retail (after assumed 25% in excluded categories), plus milestones + lounge access at realistic utilization.
+ up to ₹4,800/yr fuel surcharge savings (regularly transact ₹400–₹4,000 per fill, not included above). This waives the 1% surcharge petrol pumps add. Fuel spend itself still earns 0% cashback on this card.
✓ On base rewards alone (no memberships, lounge, or milestones), this card pays for its GST-inclusive fee at ₹13,111/month spend. Below that, the card only makes sense if you actually use the perks listed above.
Year 1 also carries a one-time ₹500 + 18% GST joining fee (~₹590), charged upfront on issuance and not waivable by spend. The net above reflects the renewal-year fee; subtract the joining fee from year-1 value.
First year bonus: +₹999 welcome value (not included above)Year-1 net: ₹590 upfront (fee + 18% GST, GST non-refundable) − ~₹800 realized voucher value (closed-loop, ~15% liquidity haircut) ≈ ₹0 net cost, not zero.
Assumptions used in this estimate▸
- • Reward earnings shown at the conservative redemption tier (vouchers / statement credit).
- • Milestone bonus of ₹200/year assumes you hit the spend threshold every period: base earn alone (no milestone) is ₹2,250/year.
- • Lounge value uses ~55% realistic utilization (most flyers don't fully clock the available visits). Per-visit anchors: ₹800 domestic, ₹1,500 international. Retail-equivalent (100% utilization) would be ₹3,200.
- • Lounge access is gated at ₹50,000/quarter preceding spend. At ₹50,000/month you clear the gate with ₹1,00,000 headroom, value counted at full utilization band.
- • Assumes 25% of your spend lands in 10 excluded categories (fuel, rent, etc.) that earn ₹0: eligible spend used in the math above is ₹37,500/month.
- • Annual fee of ₹500 + 18% GST (₹590 total) is included in the net calculation. Fee is non-waivable.
